Bracknell teenager Katie Lambert was selected to carry the Olympic Torch through West Sussex Village, thanks to her work with Bracknell Forest’s Youth Council and the Youth Parliament.
When Katie was diagnosed with hypermobility syndrome, which forced her to give up dancing, she turned her attention to student politics. She joined her local youth council when she was 13 years old.
She has previously represented the borough in the UK Youth Parliament House of Commons debates, and in January this year, Katie was involved in a campaign to save three local youth centres under threat of closure.
Katie said, “I hope to shape the country into a place where no matter your age or where you come from you are wanted and accepted. No matter if you have an illness or a disability no one will segregate you from others like I initially was.”
