Salford’s newly-elected youth representative, Joe Williams, 17, from Swinton, has been welcomed by Salford City Mayor Ian Stewart.
In a closely fought battle, Joe managed to triumph against rival Phoebe Gibson from Walkden.
In the city’s first youth elections, Joe and Phoebe campaigned in local high schools, youth centres and online to encourage young people to vote, in order to make their voices heard.
City Mayor Ian Stewart will work closely with young people to “continue to encourage their engagement in the democratic process.”
Joe will now sit in on Youth Parliament debates in the House of Commons, and represent Salford at a national level.
