Matthew Percy
I am the elected Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) for Suffolk. My job is to represent the voice of young people in this area.
Suffolk | MYP | Elected: 1st January 2010
My priorities
I am an elected MYP for Suffolk. As an MYP it is a great honour and privilege to be able to represent the views and opinions of young people throughout the county at both a local and national level, as well as internationally. I was first elected, at the age of 16, by young people throughout the County in March 2010, and was re-elected for another 2 year term in April 2012. I am currently 18 years old and live in the small town of Kesgrave, just east of Ipswich.
I attended Kesgrave High School from 2005-2012 where I studied A-Levels in Government & Politics, Sociology, English Literature and General Studies, as well as GCSEs in English, Maths, Science, Sociology, ICT, Geography, Catering and completed the ASDAN Bronze Award.
As your MYP my top 5 priorities are:
1. Campaigning for the introduction of votes at 16.
2. Campaigning for the reinstatement of the Explore Card (a card that gave young people discounted travel) for 11-19 year olds.
3. Campaigning for an equal minimum wage where 16 year olds should be entitled to the same pay as 21 year olds.
4. Campaigning for Suffolk County Council to make the Disabled Persons' Bus Pass available for use 24/7.
5. Working with District and Borough Councils across Suffolk to set up local Youth Councils where young people can campaign on local issues that affect them.
