Thomas Pike

I am the elected Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) for Buckinghamshire. My job is to represent the voice of young people in this area.

My priorities

Looking back at this in two years’ time, I hope to say I’ve achieved three main goals. Firstly, the effective campaigning for my three main policies, particularly the reform of the current 11+ selection system. Secondly, a higher profile for the UKYP within Wycombe. I believe that currently we work far too little with schools and the majority of young people living in the area, which seems to totally undermine the idea of representation. Thirdly, and linked to the second point, better representation for Wycombe’s young people at a national level. As I made clear in my election manifesto, I have three things I want to change, but Wycombe’s young people probably have dozens. They aren’t going to change unless decision makers know they’re a problem in the first place, and it’s my job to tell them. But I can’t tell them things I don’t know.
