Public Transport

About the campaign

Should public money be invested in making transport less expensive for under 18s?

House of Commons debate report:

Public transport is too expensive and unreliable for young people who often have no other way of getting to college or work, said MYPs in the first debate of their 2012 visit to the House of Commons.

In his opening speech Callum Crozier MYP, 16, from Northumberland, talked about young people who “face a daily struggle to get to work, school, and doctors’ appointments” and the injustice faced by some people as young as 14 having to pay adult prices. Furthermore, in some rural areas young people found public transport unreliable and infrequent.

23 out of 295 MYPs voted for ‘Make Public Transport Cheaper, Better and Accessible for All’
