--------------------------------------------------------
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
I am passionate about the state of
our transport system. The entire system is under-funded, and the
government seem to think that as long as transport is good in London,
then it must be good everywhere else.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
Rural Transport and Education. Derbyshire
is a very rural area and when transport is not available, it is
quite difficult to travel anywhere due to poor roads and lanes.
Education is also a big issue which we are addressing with the help
of the council.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I hope to get Derbyshire much better
representation and therefore improve the quality of life and gain
better facilities for my young people. Also to achieve a bigger
status for the UK Youth Parliament.
What is your future career ambition?
I aspire to become a Member of Parliament.
Outside the UK Youth Parliament I have an affiliation with a certain
political party and things are rapidly progressing. If that did
not work out, I would like a career in the media.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
I admire Tony Blair. I am not a supporter
of the Prime Minister but for him to progress with his policies
for reform even when some of his own cabinet colleagues disagree
with him is quite remarkable and admirable.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
The education system is not working
for many thousands of young people and making all young people of
different talents be put in mixed abilities, drags down the high
achievers and undermines the confidence of the less able.
Additional comments:
I feel that there should be a much
better link between the media and the UK Youth Parliament. I myself
am a Media Champion and feel that the training and support that
we have been given is vastly inadequate.
