Name: Piers
Brown
Status:
Deputy MYP
Constituency:
Wigan
--------------------------------------------------------
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
Along with equality it would be education.
I believe that in a perfect world
(that of course, we as young people can influence and mould) everyone,
not only in the UK, should be entitled to earn sufficient qualifications
to end up employed on an equal level. Rather than managers of huge
companies paying tuppence to people that deserve it.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
Through experience I know that like
most constituencies, public safety is
very grim. It's not a town I'd want to walk around alone in at night.
Raising
awareness and tackling this issue is very important to me. I want
to be able to do as I please, in confidence.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I'd like to try and get to know a
lot more young people from my local community - also other MYPs
/ DMYPs from across the region. Also to be as active as possible,
as that's what I feel makes UKYP as much fun as I think it is.
What is your future career ambition?
At the moment I'm in a position where
I'm bombarded with significantly different career options - so I
don't think I'm ready to decide just yet!
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
Off the top of my head, nobody really
springs to mind apart from Nelson
Mandela. Though, the most admirational person I've known about is
Andrea
Ashworth - author of 'Once Upon A House On Fire'. Read it and you'll
see!
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
I would very much enjoy to see a
reality TV programme in which MPs
take the role of someone else in a completely different circumstance
(ie. under the bus-shelter laying on a cardboard box). Not to say
that you have not done a lot in the past few years, but - it needs
to be publicised much more, the positive things you do, in the media.
Because of course, you do love being in the news, right?
