Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
I feel very strongly about racism. I think that this is a major issue and needs to be combated for Britain to develop socially; all people should have equal opportunities. Also anorexia amongst teenage girls is an issue that I feel most concerned about. Although personally I love to keep up to date with the catwalk fashions, I think that under weight models are a bad influence, particularly to vulnerable teenage girls.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
Again I feel that a large problem within Oldham is discrimination due to race. I feel that schools have become very segregated, and this has, in a way, encouraged prejudices against different backgrounds.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I hope to learn many new skills from the opportunity. I would like mostly to gain a greater knowledge of politics and also global issues. I would like to find resolutions to concerns of our youth, by working with other regions of UKYP and also independently. For Oldham I would like to represent the local view, as well as influencing people to get involved in decision making who are otherwise oblivious.
What is your future career ambition?
For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a barrister. It appeals to me that I can bring justice to a helpless situation, and as a confident person I am a good representative to others. I enjoy debates and especially winning!
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
My role model would have to be Sarah Jessica Parker. As well as loving her series I admire her for her success. She has a positive figure within the media, and is married with a child. Sarah Jessica Parker is obviously very ambitious and has been an actress, designer, and has released two perfumes (which might I add smell "lovely"!).
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
My message would be to encourage more young people to become more involved in local decisions that concern them. Although daily changes are made that will in effect shape our future, I feel that young people don't show enough interest in the issues. The government need to give young people the knowledge to realise that today's decisions are critical to young people tomorrow.
