Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
I am passionate about the lack of
respect in society today, the excessive tax burden for middle income
earners and for those who have gone to university - they are faced
with both tuition fees and high levels of income tax. Tuition fees
concern me and awful lot others in this area. I feel strongly about
our lack of national identity too.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
I think the biggest issue for people
in my constituency is the existence of a meritocratic society. Quite
rightly we want to have successful lives and there is the perception
that people in the Home Counties have more opportunity than those
in the north. We want to emerge from that shadow with the best education
and an environment that we can be proud of. We are one nation after
all.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I hope to see people of my age more
involved in politics. I should hope that by the end of next year
they feel they've been represented. People need to be valued. If
they're not then problems arise.
What is your future career ambition?
My career ambition is to be a historian.
The past helps explain the present and hopefully gives a hint of
a future. Just look at Northern Ireland, a conflict steeped in history.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
I have no time for self-serving celebrities
who preach so it would have to be the Queen. There are many "cooler",
more engaging people I'm sure, but one cannot under-estimate her
role as a rock of stability in changing times. I think she represents
what Britain is all about. If not her, then David Cameron for his
decency and principal as a politician.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
My one message to the government would
be to strip away the layers of PC that ruin politics. The reason
why we have 39% of our population not voting is the spin, the superficial
words, the clipped "inclusive" language that politicians
use. For people to get into politics again we need to get them back
campaigning on the streets and on the web, stripped of their sound
bites. We want to see sincerity again.
