Name:
Eshe Nelson
Status: Deputy MYP
Constituency:
Reading

--------------------------------------------------------

Which political issues are you most passionate about?

The quality of PSHE lessons. I think all lessons should have to reach a certain standard and include everything that's important, such as sex and relationship education.

What do you feel is the biggest issue for young people in your constituency?

At the moment there is very little for young people to do, especially in the evenings. There is also nowhere for us to go. This issue needs resolving because it will also mean that we can get rid of our stereotyped reputation of being anti-social and 'hanging around'.

What do you hope to achieve during your term of office?

I hope to achieve a better transport system in Reading and that all Reading's young people are getting their voices heard! I also want to contribute to making sex and relationship education compulsory.

What is your future career ambition?

My future career ambition can change quite often. At one point I was considering something in criminal law. But now I would like to be a journalist that gets to travel a lot.

Which public figure do you most admire and why?

I don't admire a public figure, but I do admire a type of person. Someone who will stand up for what they believe in and won't back down even when things get tougher, for example the anti-war protestor Brian Haw.

If there was one message you could send to the government, what would it be?

You need to listen more. You can't make decisions that will affect other people without hearing from them whether they want that or not. You also need to remember that young people are the future; acting as if we are inferior could have bad consequences. We need to be respected and encouraged.
