Name:
Amy Hampton
Status: MYP
Constituency: Staffordshire

--------------------------------------------------------

Which political issues are you most passionate about?

Preventing the causes of racial hatred and discrimination for young people; living in the modern multi-cultural society today, conflict is inevitable but that does not make it justifiable. I am also passionate about the deterrence of bullying in schools and creating equal opportunities within Education for children of all wants and abilities.

What do you feel is the biggest issue for young people in your constituency?

In the constituency, I believe that under-age sex and teenage pregnancy is the main and most serious issue for young people. With a focus on more sex and relationship education in schools, better communication between parents and more support for teenage parents, I believe this quandary could be stabilised.

What do you hope to achieve during your term of office?

I hope to forward my ideas to people within Education about aspects like bullying and racism, sex/relationship education and citizenship, for the subjects to take a more serious role within school, as well as fulfilling my role as MYP, working enthusiastically with others and enjoying my work.

What is your future career ambition?

I would like to continue my studies in humanities and politics and pursue a career in humanitarianism, working within civil rights, improving people's lives and reducing suffering with a focus on racial equality and freedom from discrimination.

Which public figure do you most admire and why?

With my passion for civil rights and the cessation of racism, predictably, Martin Luther King is my most admired public figure. His intrepid leadership in the civil rights movement and his commitment to fight for freedom and equality influences and inspires me in a great way.

If there was one message you could send to the government, what would it be?

To focus more upon education and equal opportunities for all young people, no matter of race, gender, ability or material background, as they are the doctors, politicians, artists and citizens of tomorrow.

Additional comments:

I am enthusiastic and have ideas about all topics within the UK Youth
Parliament even though I am most passionate about the ones mentioned above. I will work enthusiastically at all aspects put to me as I can always find something to be passionate about within any subject.
