Status:
MYP
Constituency: Norfolk
--------------------------------------------------------
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
Global warming. Today's politicians
are not addressing it with nearly enough urgency, and very soon
it will be too late. If we destroy the earth, we have nowhere else
to go, so we have to recognise how urgent this issue is and do everything
we can to stop our self-destruction.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
Things to do, places to go and ways
to get there. We live in a very rural area, so many young people
find that there is very little to do near to home, and travelling
to the few centres where activities are offered can be difficult
and expensive.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I aim to be an effective representative
for the young people in my constituency and to raise awareness of
the UKYP. I would also like to put serious political pressure on
the government and encourage people in power to consider some of
the issues that will affect the future of our generation.
What is your future career ambition?
I would really like to be a politician.
I feel that there are so many terrible things happening in the world
that I have a duty to try to put some of them right. Of course,
I'll need a career before politics, so I'm considering environmental
sciences, but it's too early to say for certain - I've only just
chosen my GCSE options. My favourite subject is music, but I'll
keep that as a hobby.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
Nelson Mandela - he stood up for what
was right and saw his dream through. Greater still, he held no grudges
against the white people who had led the apartheid, but made South
Africa into a peaceful country, and worked in the interest of everyone,
not just those with the same coloured skin.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
Take a lead on climate change and
become a role model for the rest of the world. The evidence is there
- we are destroying the planet and I can't stress enough how urgent
it is that we take radical action.
