Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
Well, at the moment there is a lot of media attention on youth. We have been described as yobs, gangsters, scary, intimidating and much more. The issue I’m most passionate about is trying to get a better image of us in the media, showing the public that we are not monsters who are out to mob, attack or hurt anyone. We are all individuals that need to be recognised by our good attributes as well as our bad. I don’t believe in completely ignoring youth involvement with violence but I suggest that it should not be focused on.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
Lack of community activities for young people to bide their time, in a more positive way. At the moment the government is concentrating very much on education and getting young people to excel academically rather then focusing on things, which individual youths can learn from, for example boxing and football. We need to develop projects, which are beneficial for the majority of young people and not just those that are academically able.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I hope to campaign on three main topics
1: a positive image in the media for young people
2: campaign to allow voting in general election at 16
3: travel concessions for young people up to 18
What is your future career ambition?
Well when I went into the youth service I wanted to finish college and go to university to do medicine but now that I have come so far in this field I’m having doubts on what I will pursue in the future, be it medicine or something more political.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
The most interesting public figure is Jon Snow, just due to the way he reports. He is very good at what he does and it is my opinion he is very fair. He tries to get as much information out of those he interviews for the benefit of the public which in my opinion is his job. He is a very respectable person who inspires me.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
Give young people more time, more positive feedback, use your influence to reflect the success of the majority and not the worst of the minority.
