Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
I am extremely passionate about the safety of youth, whether it’s in the house, at school or on the streets. Young people are often viewed as easy targets as many perceive them to be vulnerable and naive. Unfortunately, this is often the case and young people don’t tend to speak up if they’re being harmed. Hence, I believe that changes need to take place to ensure that youth are being taken care of as best as possible. It’s also important that the adversity of issues such as teenage pregnancy and child obesity are emphasised to youth so that they can aim to steer clear of such problems. Additionally, I believe that more attention needs to be paid to the environment and global warming.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
Knife and Gun crime is certainly an issue that needs to be addressed in Redbridge, as stabbings take place far too often. The more often they occur, the more people are going to accept that it’s just a ‘norm’ and the more difficult it will become to stop it. Something needs to be done about it now. A possible solution could be having more youth opportunities to try and eradicate the boredom experienced by some youth who get involved with such incidents and turn their attention to doing something more productive.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
Instead of just saying what I’d like to change, I want to actually physically implement at least one change in Redbridge that the youth will acknowledge as improving their life. Ideally, I’d like to create some kind of centre where youth can go to get away from their problems, get involved in something constructive, relax, socialise and have fun.
What is your future career ambition?
I’m not at all sure what area I’d like to pursue a career in, but law, politics or the financial sector are definitely realistic possibilities. I guess I’ll just see where life takes me!
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
Mahatma Gandhi- his intelligence, quick wit and good will overwhelms me …
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
Listen to your people - after all that’s why you’re there. Find out exactly what the public want and try to take action on it. Also, don’t underestimate youth - we’re more concerned and able than you think.
