Which political issues are you most passionate about?

I believe that the most important issues are that everyone should have equal opportunities, and be offered equal healthcare and education, but then the individual is left to their own devices once the state has done its own part. I feel it is crucial that work is done to bring families together, and ensure that the children of Britain are no longer at the bottom of the U.N.’s most developed list for happy children.

What do you feel is the biggest issue for young people in your constituency?

I aim to work on all issues as a whole. However, my greatest concern for youth in Bexley is that they mostly feel they have nothing to do, and are isolated by society. I want to change the image of youths and give them something enjoyable to do in their leisure time.

What do you hope to achieve during your term of office?

I want to do my best to solve the above mentioned issue of integrating young people into society and change their negative image. I also want to project their views assertively to the UKYP, and ensure that the things we want from the borough are granted, and not ignored. I also have an interest in making adults and young people alike aware of what UKYP has done for them.

What is your future career ambition?

I’m not entirely sure at present, though I long toyed with the idea of becoming a solicitor, or even a barrister. I don’t like to commit to any idea unless I’m certain. Other careers plans could be going into teaching, work through a business organisation or politics.

Which public figure do you most admire and why?

Politically, I most admire Margaret Thatcher. Despite the controversy surrounding her, from what I am aware, she was an assertive leader, who pursued her ideas and would do her best to stand up for what she believed in. She projected a bold image for our country, at a time when it was falling in status in Europe and the English-speaking world. She believed in the work of the individual, and that people should do things for themselves, or be supported by their family or community, rather than the taxpayer.

If there was one message you could send to the government, what would it be?

Listen to the public, because that is what you are there for. However, the common public opinion may not always be the most logical, as we are not all politicians. In which case, the government should explain why the public opinion may be incorrect, and suggest a compromise. They should respect the public more, and do more listening rather than speaking.
