Which political issues are you most passionate about?

There are actually a number of issues I am passionate about in today's society, although some of them may not be classed political themselves. I do know that education is a political issue, and one I am interested in. I am aware that the Government are trying to bring about changes in the current National Curriculum, which I think has both its advantages and disadvantages (but then again, doesn't everything!). What I'd really like to see on teenagers' school timetables is lessons in finance, and managing to live on your own, as half the stuff being taught in schools is so restricting, and also mainly seriously irrelevant to adult life. I am also 'passionate' about bullying in schools. And outside school, too, for that matter. I think there is seriously no need at all for it; nor is there any excuse. I would also love to take part in the organisation of a campaign during my term of office on this matter...see 'What do you hope to achieve during your term of office'.

What do you feel is the biggest issue for young people in your constituency?

From my wisdom and knowledge of teenage life in Stockton, I am aware that there aren't as many activities - that are affordable for a young person's budget - for young people that will help keep them off the streets at night. Furthermore, I feel that young people in Stockton feel very much 'alienated', as there is so much bad press around young people these days, which means that many people in society (especially the elderly) look down on them. This shouldn't be the case; we should be teaching the elderly things too, and I honestly feel that it is an utter shame that the elderly automatically think of teenagers as yobs. We shouldn't have to prove ourselves to be good people, just because the minority of young people featured in the press have spoilt it for the rest of us.

What do you hope to achieve during your term of office?

OK, I'll just be honest with this question, but some people may think I'm stupid, and immature for this. But trust me, I'm not!! The truth is that I don't usually set goals. I like the idea of them, don't get me wrong - I think they're great - but I know from first hand experience that no matter how much planning you do, something will go wrong along the way, something that you didn't plan for. And, as life is so unpredictable, I haven't got my heart set on any 'goals' as such for my term of office. However, with this new opportunity, I would like to think that young people in Stockton would see me in a more positive light, as it is really for them that I am doing this - it's giving the people who matter most a voice that can be heard. I think the most important message I can send out to my constituents is that I am willing to listen, just as long as you're willing to speak! I am approachable, and like I said in my speech when I was elected, I can fight for people's opinions to be taken seriously even if they aren't necessarily ones that I agree with.
Even though I haven't got my heart set in anything, what I would feel really honoured to be part of is organising a campaign to raise awareness of knife crime - whether it be locally, or nationally, it would be absolutely great!
Obviously, in an ideal world, I'd like to help stamp out bullying altogether, but I'm thinking that's something too big to be dreaming of!! But I would like to help in raising awareness of it!

What is your future career ambition?

Like I said above, I haven't got any fixed goals for my future. I'd just like to live life, and live it to the full (because after all, that's what it's for!!) But, seriously, since I was in primary school, I've always wanted to be a police officer. Now, even though I'd still love to go down that route, I do feel that are a lot more paths open for negotiation!! So, at the moment, I'm not really entirely sure, as, like I said before, life's unpredictable!! (Just like British weather!!) So I'm just taking it as it comes, which, yes, I hear you say is stupid, but I feel that it's the best way to move forward!!

Which public figure do you most admire and why?

Wow, that's a hard question!! This one I’ll need some thinking about!! I feel one of those things coming on...you know when you can't answer something, so you say something completely irrelevant, then when you go away, it suddenly comes to you, and you burst out with 'Oh yeah, I should've thought of that before'. Ring any bells? Thought so. So, I think that for this question, I'm going to say...No-one. (Just to send this off, and think of someone, you understand!!)

If there was one message you could send to the government, what would it be?

Hahaha!! I've been eagerly anticipating this question for ages!! And now I can finally answer it!! :-) Right then, here goes...
Dear people in Government,
My message is a very, very long one. But you'll be glad to hear that I'll shorten it somewhat. I'd like to open this message to the Government with two simple questions for them all to think about, on their own, quietly. This means their thoughts, not other people's. The first question I'd like them to think about is this: Have you REALLY got the evidence to suggest that we are going through global warming? If so, is it really us - one of the smallest countries in the world - who are the main polluters? What I suggest is that you all think for once, before you jump on the bandwagon. And as for wind turbines, do not get me started. They are a complete and utter waste of time, money, and in my case, beautiful countryside. (And breathe, Becki!) Secondly, is taxing everything you can get your hands on really the answer to this country's so called problems?
What I would really like to see in Government are MP's that actually represent their constituents, not just simply their ideas and beliefs. I'd also like to see promises that are made by various people in Government actually carried out, but, hey, we can't always have everything we want, can we?!
But, most of all, what I would really like to see is the demolition of all political groups. We do all have different beliefs, yes, but to be grouped into Labour, Lib Dems, Tories, etc. is wrong. Full stop. And, is there really any need for all the junk the candidates send out at election time????
There is a lot more I could say, but I'll save it for another time!!
Yours Sincerely,
MYP Becki Fox

Additional comments:

Can I please take this opportunity to thank the young people in my constituency for voting for me, and also thank you to the people who didn't vote for me!  And also to the people who didn't vote at all!! (Yes, I may be a little bit crazy!!) And I think that this is a fantastic way for getting young people more involved in the local community, with Government, and it's just a generally great opportunity for me!!! So thank you so much - this time last year, I would never have imagined (not even in my wildest dreams!!) that I would be doing this!! And it makes me so happy...and honoured!!!!
