Which political issues are you most passionate about?

I am very passionate about nearly all political issues within our society today, because I think it is so important for all people to be actively involved in politics in whatever way that may be. My real passion is the interest and knowledge that people have in regards to our government and political system. There is a lack of this and I just think this is not right! For all citizens to be actively involved in political issues they need to know about these sorts of things. It is so easy for any government to do what they like because people are now so detached from politics, and not due to their own fault. So many people don’t vote and that should not be the way. Due to my feelings on this I am also really passionate about education .I think young people should have citizenship lessons, containing vital information to empower them to be able to vote confidently with reliable knowledge and to fully participate in our local or national politics. Then specific issues I feel can be worked on.

What do you feel is the biggest issue for young people in your constituency?

I think a major issue is transport and specifically the prices of our local transport. They are constantly on the rise and it isn’t fair for the young people of our area. It has also been announced that soon young people will have to pay adult fares and there will be no child fares, this is just ridiculous.

What do you hope to achieve during your term of office?

I hope I can raise the profile of the UKYP as I think all young people should know that they are represented in this great way! Also I hope to work with the young people in my constituency to and our MYP, so we can make sure we are actively involved in the next steps of our building schools for the future programme. Young people in our area have been heavily involved in designing our upcoming new learning centres. I just want to make sure we are involved in deciding what is taught in them. On a national level I will still campaign for votes at 16, free transport for young people, the development of the citizenship syllabus (getting better substantial citizenship lessons in all schools) and the sex and relationship education campaign. Along with this I hope to try an engage young people in politics as much as possible. So I think I will be busy!

What is your future career ambition?

I want to ultimately work within government; I would absolutely love to become the education secretary. Although before this I want to study law and hopefully become a barrister. Hopefully my political career will come later in life. I also want to teach somewhere along the way.

Which public figure do you most admire and why?

Apart form all the singers and artists I admire solely due to their talent (especially Beyonce, I love her). I don’t really admire anyone specific who is in the public eye. My ultimate role model is my mother, I think she is such a strong person and has taught me a lot. I look up to her in so many ways. I love her to bits!

If there was one message you could send to the government, what would it be?

Try harder to get not only young people, but all people involved in our country’s politics. Work harder to increase the amount of people who vote. Let 16 year olds vote and change the system in which decisions for young people are made. Instead of assuming the problems young people face and assuming what they want, be more actively involved with us (young people). We are the best people to tell you what will work and what won’t!

Additional comments:

I would just like to thank all the people in my constituency who voted for me and the other candidates. They are showing people young people do care and young people’s opinions are just as important as anyone else’s. I would like to wish Nathan our MYP good luck and emphasise I will work hard for the young people of Knowsley alongside Nathan.
