Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
I'd say that I am particularly interested in the current affairs within the health system and education. Without these foundations, no young person can grow up in a society in which a difference can be made, mentally, physically, emotionally and economically.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
The biggest issues are the lack of facilities available to young people. I think if some young people who are in the category of 'likely offenders' were given something constructive, entertaining and inexpensive to do, there would be a lot less trouble. Obviously, I am not saying that this would solve everything but it would be a positive step in the right direction.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I hope to give Rochdale's youth a better profile and create further links to organizations to make sure that young people are being listened to.
What is your future career ambition?
I want to become a doctor and perhaps be involved in pediatrics. I have a strong love of politics and if possible would love to combine my career as a doctor with politics. Who knows? Next health secretary in waiting?
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
Hmmm...I think of late, this is a very difficult question. I admire David Cameron's charisma and how he has tried to engage with young people and give them an opportunity in a very traditional party. However, I must say that recently I have been impressed by Gordon Brown. He has really tried to show himself as being an individual to Tony Blair and that he does deserve this position. His perseverance and ideas have to be admired.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
Give us a chance. You'd be surprised how many young people are interested in the world of politics and given the opportunity, we would be great contributors of the present and not only of the future.
