Which political issues are you most passionate about?

I’m interested in climate change and making poverty history as world political issues.  However more locally I’m passionate about the need for young people to be seen as fully contributing positive citizens of society.

What do you feel is the biggest issue for young people in your constituency?

The biggest issue I feel is the lack of facilities for young people in terms of places they can go to have a good time with their friends instead of standing on street corners. However, the Youth Oppurtunities and Youth Capital Funds are addressing this issue by funding activities throughout the borough of Rochdale which is great!

What do you hope to achieve during your term of office?

I hope to be an effective voice for young people in my constituency. I want to raise the profile of MYP and also the Rochdale Youth Council and show to the council and authorities that there are young people who are adamant on making a positive contribution to their communities.

What is your future career ambition?

For a long time now I’ve wanted to be a Barrister and I still bear that ambition. I also have a passion for politics and I hope to go into politics after a few years as a Barrister.

Which public figure do you most admire and why?

Though I disagree with some of his views, I quite admire Ex-Prime Minister Tony Blair. I think he’s a dynamic and articulate speaker. The excellent work he did in Northern Ireland and other parts of the world including the work in regards to poverty in Africa makes him a respectable world leader.
Tony Blair graduated as a Barrister and went into politics and became Prime Minster, if he can do that, then so can I!

If there was one message you could send to the government, what would it be?

“Involve”! I want the government to involve young people in the decision making process. The government needs to consult young people more widely on issues that affect us. We’re not apolitical; it’s just that we’re never asked.
