Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
I am most passionate about education. I believe that many problems in the world at the moment could be solved by education. There needs to be a greater emphasis on this, especially for young people. I’m also not a big fan of top up fees. Another issue that gets me riled is discrimination of women, by both sexes. I believe that there is no reason why a woman can’t have a successful career, marriage and be good mother simultaneously.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
There is a lack of activities available to young people in Northern Ireland. There are very few facilities, and often they resort to loitering which can be intimidating to other people and can encourage crime.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I hope to learn more about young peoples’ needs all over the U.K. and hopefully change something for the better.
What is your future career ambition?
At the moment I am concentrating on my A levels and hope to study law at university in September. I’m hoping that when I get to that stage I will have decided where I want to go from there. I can see myself working for a law firm or perhaps becoming a solicitor.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
There are a lot of people I admire. I think Tony Blair comes in for a lot of criticism for his decisions but he seems to be guided by his morals which I respect. Although I don’t agree with some of his policies, he is principled, charismatic and has integrity and I think people should cut him some slack. I also admire May McAleese (the Irish President). She has came from an under privileged background and has carved out an extremely successful career for herself, giving inspiration to young women like myself.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
I would like them to consider abolishing top up fees. As I mentioned earlier, I believe that education is extremely important and raising the cost is going to make it inaccessible to some people.
