Name: Anna Stansbury
Status: Deputy MYP
Constituency: Buckinghamshire
--------------------------------------------------------
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
- War – killing other people can never be justified, no matter what the cause.
- Equality of opportunity – everyone deserves an equal chance to achieve in life, and that’s why good education and facilities for young people are so important.
- World unity – a pretty “big” concept, but people need to think beyond borders and start to feel more like one world, and that’s why organisations like the EU and UN are such great ideas.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
I know this comes up all the time, but transport is still a major issue. The trains are hugely expensive and only go to a few places, and the buses are slow and infrequent, so people without cars can’t get around easily. Also, young people don’t feel like they have a say in the way things are run.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
- Cheaper, better transport for young people
- Make it easier for young people to get involved in running things in the area
- Votes at 16!
- Look into the National Curriculum, try and make it more relevant to what people need to (and want to) know
What is your future career ambition?
To make a difference. I’d like to go into law or economics and work in the EU/UN.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
Nelson Mandela – he campaigned for freedom, equality and justice, and despite spending 27 years in prison, he made a huge difference to South Africa and the world.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
Listen to the people – you’re their representatives.
Additional comments:
I’m here to represent you, not to campaign for my own views, so send me comments and suggestions to myp@ukyouthparliament.org.uk with "Anna Stansbury" in the subject box.
