Name: Hanna-Eve Benney

Status: Deputy MYP

Constituency:
Cornwall

--------------------------------------------------------

Which political issues are you most passionate about?

Just promoting and implementing the rights of all young people – through getting our voices heard, getting services improved and increasing respect for young people.

What do you feel is the biggest issue for young people in your constituency?

Transport, it’s getting ridiculous in Cornwall. It’s great to work as a UKYP team in Cornwall with the support of the youth forum in campaigning for ‘fair fares’. Check out http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/KernowFairFares/ and support us!

What do you hope to achieve during your term of office?

To have an impact in the South West, and to be able to look back and see visible and active changes in services for young people and hopefully create a more positive and safe environment for all young people.

What is your future career ambition?

An area of social work or counselling, then later becoming a councillor or the children and young people’s champion for the local council.

Which public figure do you most admire and why?

Coretta Scott King. She was an amazing woman. Even after her husband’s (Martin Luther King Jnr.) assination she courageously continued his struggle for non-violent change, equal justice and economic opportunity for all. She was more than his wife. She took part in the whole campaign and continued throughout all the dangers, even raising a family of four children. Coretta Scott King remained a figure of strength, determination, grace and dignity. I hope that when I die I have achieved just half of what she has. She is an amazing inspiration, (and makes me to go to meetings for hours on end).

If there was one message you could send to the government, what would it be?

“We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive.” -- Albert Einstein

The time has come for change. Start now and make our generation’s job easier!!
