Name: Ellen Slack
Status: MYP
Constituency: Warwickshire
--------------------------------------------------------
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
I am most passionate about climate change and the effects it will have on our planet. I think more needs to be done to tackle the problem as the young people of today will be the ones facing the massive problems caused by it in the future.
I am also passionate on many other issues including bullying and discrimination. Although there are many bullying campaigns to help stamp out the problem, I feel that there are still many young people who are victims of this in secret.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
In my constituency, I feel one of the biggest issues for young people is the cost of transport. Particularly because many teenagers have to pay adult fares on some buses. I think this is very unfair as teenagers earn hardly anything - if anything at all -compared to adults, but they are expected to pay the same price. I think this restricts many teenagers from going out where they want to. I believe young people should have free transport to prevent this problem.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
In my term of office I hope to voice the issues that the young people in my constituency raise. I would like to improve the facilities that are available to young people and I would like to promote recycling and show people how important it is to look after the world's resources.
What is your future career ambition?
Once I have done my GCSEs this summer, I hope to stay on at my school's sixth form to study my A-levels. After this I would like to go to University - but I'm not really sure what I would like to study. Although, I would like to possibly go into a career in medicine.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
I don't admire one person in particular but I do have a lot of respect for all the previous MYPs who have worked very hard, put lots of effort and time into all the things that the UK Youth Parliament has already achieved.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
I would ask them to do more to tackle climate change by using more renewable sources of energy. Also, I think the government should promote recycling more so that we do not waste valuable resources.
