Name: Matthew Reay
Position: MYP
Constituency: Northamptonshire
--------------------------------------------------------
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
I am most passionate about publicising the work of the Youth Parliament, as there are a lot of people out there who don’t know what it is. I am also very passionate about making sure the youth generation are not tarred with the same negative brush.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
Street Safety. There are a lot of people out on the streets at night who are not aware of who they are passing, and this is a very real danger to their own personal safety.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I hope to make a mark so that people know they can always have a voice if they choose to use it. That is what the Youth Parliament is there for.
What is your future career ambition?
To become a politician or work in the Foreign Office or United Nations. I feel I can make a difference somewhere in the world and can achieve this if I work hard enough.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
I would say Tony Blair. Despite what people say about the Iraq War, I feel that he deserves admiration. He always did what he thought was right, not necessarily what the people best agreed with. That takes real guts.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
Please, as the inheritants of the planet, we need to start looking after it a lot more carefully. People die needlessly everyday and we as a world respected power, we need to have more of an input into foreign affairs.
Additional comments:
I trust that my constituents will continue to support me in trying to help the youth in Corby. We have never really had a voice and now it’s our time to get things done!
