Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
I am most interested in teacher training, educational opportunities, uniform rules and school funding. My peers and I feel that teachers are not trained adequately to deal with children with learning disadvantages, mainly dyslexia. We also feel that better training and accountability would allow teachers to realise their impact on students. I also think and agree, after talking to many fellow students, that we are also limited in our opportunities.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
School transportation is a big issue for those in my area because we have a large number of students that travel from rural areas to attend school. Schools use the “as the crow flies” rule disregarding actual distance needed to walk or the number of connections needed to be made on public transport. For some students the walk to school requires walking alone through unsafe areas. Parents that can drive their children to school then create traffic problems and with that putting students at risk.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I believe all of my issues are realistic and steps toward change can either be started during my term or completed.
What is your future career ambition?
I have not decided yet. My interests are varied and I still have a lot to think about.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
The public figure that I most admire is my father. He is a local businessman and started his business when he was a teenager in university. He now has a lot of employees and is a great leader. He has taught me many of the things I know today. When he started his business he was alone and he never gave up. That showed me bravery. He told me many valuable things like that I should never give up and if I really want something I should work my hardest for it and because of him I have taken this role as a MYP.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
If they say that young people are the future then why do they limit us from our full potential? There are many issues that face us today and with their help, we can have a better lifestyle than those in the past.
