High level report recommends funding for UK Youth Parliament

26.06.2009

Shocking research out today reveals that over 80% of young people don’t feel politicians represent them fairly and three quarters don’t feel they can influence government decisions. The Youth Citizenship Commission has recommended that Parliament fund the work of the UK Youth Parliament, as one of a series of measures to encourage young people to engage in politics.

Tessa Tyler, Member of Youth Parliament, 16 years-old said,

“If we don’t start to bridge the gap between young people and politicians now then when will we?

“The UK Youth Parliament shows just how many young people out there are interested in politics, they just need to be given the opportunity to get involved and have their views acted upon.

“Funding from Parliament would mean our work could stretch further, reaching more young people, helping them to see what politics is all about.”
