Name: Emma Livingstone
Position: MYP
Constituency: Hertfordshire
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
Political education in schools, making sure that we listen properly to young people and accurately represent them, improving the status of young people. For me the issue of ensuring that children’s rights are known about and respected is also very important.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
For many young people it is the issue of adequate and fairly priced transport, but also there are issues related to schools and the treatment of young people.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
Hopefully to raise the profile of UKYP and of young people, particularly in my local area, but also to get some breakthrough with our campaigns. To get schools to agree to do a ‘political education day’ would be fantastic and a really important step.
What is your future career ambition?
Not sure, possibly something politics related. At the moment I’m just concerned with the university and A-levels.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
I tend not to take my lead from public figures. People who I admire most are people like my parents – it may sound corny, but I truly believe that they have set an amazing example for me and my brother.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
Listen to your young people, respect them and don’t muck the future up for them.
