Name: Matthew Percy
Position: MYP
Constituency: Suffolk
--------------------------------------------------------
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
- Increasing the amount of young voters at elections.
- Improving public transport, both in cost, particularly for young people, but also in reliability and bus times.
- I'm also keen on raising awareness of homosexuality. This is because homosexuality is often frowned at and yet there is nothing wrong with it and I want to spread this message.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
Public Transport. I feel this is a big issue for young people in Suffolk as public transport is extremely expensive; but also because as Suffolk is a pretty rural county, meaning that in many areas there is a distinct lack of public transport and if public transport is available the timetable is often not ideal.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I hope to achieve more reliable public transport, which is cheap and accessible for all young people.
What is your future career ambition?
I am currently considering many options including librarian or library manager, traffic control officer, and MP ideally for one of the following constituencies: Suffolk Coastal, Central Suffolk & North Ipswich, or Ipswich.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
I don’t really have one public figure I admire most however I feel anyone who stands up for what they believe in is admirable. I also admire anyone who can (try and) boost the voting turnout, particularly younger voters, in elections is also worth admiring, such as David Dimbleby (host of political debate, Question Time).
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
Make sure you involve young people in decision making, after all, we are the country’s future.
