Name: Nathan Akehurst

Position: Deputy MYP

Constituency:
Kensington and Chelsea

--------------------------------------------------------

Which political issues are you most passionate about?

International affairs, political education, the media, the portrayal of young people in the media, economy and employment, finance, the arts, promoting ambition and entrepreneurship, social justice, the youth agenda in general, protest and activism.

What do you feel is the biggest issue for young people in your constituency?

Misrepresentation in the media, a general lack of ambition and direction, and a lack of faith in the education or political system.

What do you hope to achieve during your term of office?

To set up a fund so young people can get grants for creative or business projects, to improve the political education and international affairs awareness syllabus in schools, and to set up a system where all our constituents are aware of the UKYP and can set up a dialogue with their MYP. I would also like to arrange more events like debates, plays, sports matches, etc.

What is your future career ambition?

To become a film producer or director (and possibly later a politician).

Which public figure do you most admire and why?

There aren’t really any I can call to mind!

If there was one message you could send to the government, what would it be?

The U.S. decided it needed ‘change we can believe in’. The same is needed here in Britain; commitment to the youth agenda, a shakeup of the House of Commons and the two-party system, clamping down on the corporate sector, commitment to green affairs and to promoting social justice around the world (and no, not like the US do, with military force).
