Name: Devon Chow
Position: Deputy MYP
Constituency: Ealing
--------------------------------------------------------
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
- Young people (16-25) hurt by the recession with a fifth out of work today.
- The war in the Middle East has failed to solve the terrorism problem but has wasted £5-10 billion and killed hundreds of British soldiers’ and thousands of civilians’ lives.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
- Some youths just "switch off" because part of the school curriculum is boring (e.g. maths) and not relevant
- Young people (16-25) hurt by the recession with a fifth out of work today
- University/college tuition fees are not affordable
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
My plan can be found on www.devonchow.com. Specifically, I have written to MPs to get their support for spending £50m for a year on these:
- Making the school curriculum more fun and relevant to the modern world and youths’ needs by, e.g. fighting for subsidised international student exchange programmes and gym membership during half terms.
- Help young people become more ready for employment and get a job, e.g. through better school curriculum (as above) and developing work experience by charity work.
- Reducing university/college tuition fees and/or offering tax holidays for fresh graduates (that is no tax for the first year so that they can use the saved tax to repay student loans).
What is your future career ambition?
My ideal job is working asaradio DJ, zoo keeper or artist.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
My favourite is Bill Clinton, former President of USA, from the perspective of political ideas and commitment. He went out to speak to people, including the weekends. His policies were innovative and effective in building a fairer and better future for people, e.g. health care reform. His foreign policy was peaceful. He is committed to improving the lives of people, even now.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
BE HONEST!!!!!! ANSWER OUR QUESTIONS DIRECTLY!!!!!!!
Additional comments:
Let us youths determine our future now. But we have to act proactively and responsibly to show our credibility, and play a part to contribute.
