Name: Rosie Young
Position: Deputy MYP
Constituency: Newham
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
Stereo-typing within the media is a big issue to me. It is so important that the youth are portrayed in a correct manner. I believe for every negative story in the press five positive stories should be published. It is much more enlightening to read of the positive contribution the youth make to our community.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
A big issue in Newham is safety. The streets of Newham should be crime free and the youth of Newham need to feel safe while walking about.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
Change in the community. I want to work to the best of my abilities to ensure that our voice is heard and ultimately makes a change.
What is your future career ambition?
I would like to be a research zoologist, and hopefully travel the world in hope to make a change whether it is in the animal kingdom or society in general.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
I have many idols in my life but one that I hold close would be Mahatma Gandhi. His words are held deep in my heart. My favourite saying is ‘You must be the change you want to see in the world.’ Gandhi’s battle for equality and knowledge enlightened the world and his determination has helped me through life.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
The saying ‘children should be seen not heard’ is old and out-dated. The voice of the youth is what counts. We have a voice and we WILL use it.
Additional comments:
It is time for change and rather than look at our wrists we need to look to the government and make our own change!
