Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
I have profound views on a range of political issues. Currently, I really want to ensure that young people have a voice within the UK and its Government. As young people make up a large proportion of the UK’s population and are greatly affected by political issues, their voices should not be ignored. I also feel very strongly about prejudice and discrimination, and I feel it is still a big issue within the UK - even though it shouldn’t be, with all the movements working against it and the laws that have been put in place. Although I feel strongly about these and other issues, I am passionate about anything that affects young people, and even though such issues are vast and constantly changing, I feel I can accommodate this and tackle anything.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
I do not think there are enough things for young people to do, and when they decide to gather on streets with friends due to the absence of activities and things to get involved in, people can wrongly regard youths as unpleasant citizens or even yobs. There are only a small number of respectable organisations that young people can get involved in and they all have a limited number of spaces, so activities and things to get involved in need to be created for young people. Furthermore, I do not feel that creating a new Youth Club or park is the answer, as these ideas will not interest a large percentage of young people in my constituency; thought needs to be put into what is created for young people so the idea will actually work.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I don’t know what’s in store for me over these next two years; all I know is that I’m greatly looking forward to the times and challenges that face me. However, I will be extremely satisfied knowing that I have actually made a difference to young people in my constituency and throughout the UK. I believe that tackling the issues that young people are passionate about is the main function of my role, and as long as I can achieve that I will be happy.
What is your future career ambition?
For a large proportion of my life I have wanted to pursue a career in law, preferably as a barrister. However, recently I have become more and more interested in political issues, so I’m keeping my options open at the moment.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
I don’t have a particular public figure that I admire the most, as I feel that so many people in the UK and in other countries all make such a great contribution and difference. I also admire all the citizens of countries who are not in the public eye, but make a positive difference on a day to day basis, and put their heart and soul into their beliefs, even if they do not reap rewards.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
The Government is supposed to be making the best of the country and doing the best for the people living within it. If that is the case, then how come a divide is present between a large amount of people and the Government? The Government needs to work more closely with people throughout the country and find out what we really need to create a stronger society. If everyone can work together and the public actually support the Government, surely we can improve our country and the issues we face?
