Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
Education is one of political issues I am most passionate about. I believe that the current system needs to be reformed to allow pupils to be better educated, from a younger age, in government and politics. This way participation and pluralism can be increased in the long term as apathy is one of the greatest dangers to democracy.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
I feel that public transport is a huge issue for young people within Wigan which is why one of our main campaigns is to enable young people to be able to use public transport at a concessionary rate at all times.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
- Concessionary bus fares for young people at all times
-
A place for young people to go in the town centre
- More effective health education in schools.
What is your future career ambition?
I would love a career in politics, as an MP for example. This would enable me to serve my constituency and make positive change upon people's lives.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
Definitely Martin Luther King Jr. King's 'I have a Dream' speech has inspired people all over the world and still continues to. King had a vision and a purpose but most importantly the conviction to act upon it and strive for a better life for those he represented, the black citizens who were oppressed in an unequal and unjust society. He has inspired me to never lose hope, to keep trying despite what seems impossible circumstances, to leave one's 'comfort zone' and chase the dream no matter how big it seems.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
To call an election! Joking aside though, if there was one message I could send to the government it would be to ensure that the youth have a real say and to provide more opportunities for the youth to participate in politics. It is the youth, as the next generation of politicians, business people etc, who are the cornerstone of society, thus it is essential for government to listen to them.
