Name: Teja Bapuram
Position: Deputy MYP
Constituency: Milton Keynes
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
I would like to campaign for lowering voting age to 16. As I strongly believe the fact that us, the young people should have a say in what’s going to happen in the future. We are mature enough to make decisions that sooner or later will effect us. By lowering the age we can lobby politicians and/or councilors to listen to the young generation who soon will be the future of the United Kingdom.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
In my constituency when I campaigned for my election there was a majority of people who said they have very few free activities and it is expensive to go to gyms and swimming pools. This leads to young people hanging out in the street and causing havoc. For this reason we formed a campaign group that looks over the activities that are running in Milton Keynes and rating the activity/leisure centers for a better youth provision.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
We as a cabinet are in a process of bringing out an outstanding card called “All in 1” card. One of the features of this card will enable teenagers to get a discount of 10% in sports centres and it will motivate them to have better physical health. To do this we have to get businesses on board and we are in the process of persuasion and planning at the moment. Please join and support us @ http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=153867894602
What is your future career ambition?
I would like to be either an economist or an MP. However, I would like to finish my A-levels and then decide on a career path.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
Now no one would be that kind of person but I always look up to the person who respects others' views, a person who is like a candle who does not mind melting whilst letting others shine.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
Please do respect our opinions and views and do not ignore them as today’s youngsters are tomorrow’s citizens and let us make the rules, as we will be the government soon.
Additional comments:
During my tenure, I would like to meet as many young people as possible in order to listen to their views and opinions and make their voices heard strongly at the national level. I am looking forward to meeting all the D/MYP’s to MAD (Make A Difference).
