They believe in The Youth of Today, do you?

Which political issues are you most passionate about?

Animal and human rights are really important to me. I don’t think that animals should be tortured and killed for the “needs” of humans. However, I don’t think the eating of meat should be abolished – it’s your own choice. But there are plenty of more humane ways to treat animals than how we do now. People don’t seem to realise how much difference things like buying free-range eggs and chickens can make. And this is only the first step. One day people will look back on how we treat animals and even some humans and they will be horrified. Another thing people don’t do enough about is the environment. We can’t all be perfect, but there must be something more we can do to try and save our planet, otherwise we won’t start to take notice until it is too late.

What do you feel is the biggest issue for young people in your constituency?

I know everyone naturally spouts out the word ‘transport’ and the word alone is not making an impact anymore, but I do think that transport in our area does need to be improved. Not just the price, as work on that has been done already, but the availability of it. As young people, we are totally dependent on adults for being ferried around like children, and if we really want independence, then this needs to change. Also, education is a massive issue for young people – adults tend to stop thinking about it as they are not the ones being forced to go to school everyday. They may think they ‘know better’, but we are the ones having to learn it. So, we should have a greater say in what it is that we learn and make it more relevant to our lives.

What do you hope to achieve during your term of office?

I think more people need to find out about the Youth Parliament! How can we claim to represent all the young people in our constituency’s views if they don’t know that we exist? I want to be able to say that I’ve represented as many people’s views as possible and I want to start with key things like transport and then move on to other issues that the people I represent think need changing.

What is your future career ambition?

Well, I want to do something related to journalism and write books, perhaps be an editor/publisher at some point. I also want to travel the world, meet as many people and take as many pictures as possible. Oh and of course, world domination is high up on my list…

Which public figure do you most admire and why?

Well I’m not sure if authors technically count as public figures but I’m going to pretend they do. Stephanie Meyers is amazing. She wrote the Twilight series, and she uses beautiful phrases that usually people don’t think of, let alone use. So, she particularly inspires me. I also think that the Queen is pretty amazing, you don’t find many 81 year old women still working as hard as she does.

If there was one message you could send to the government, what would it be?

Young people are stereotyped through the media and this is insanely unfair. We get blamed for things based upon the idea that we cannot defend ourselves. They have alarms outside shops that only under 25’s can hear. What next? Bear traps? Restrictions on what we wear? Unless you command the respect of the majority of people, you will get nowhere. Also, you won’t get the respect of anyone who you do not treat equally to others. Sort it out.
