Name: Subi Wahogo
Position: Deputy MYP
Constituency: Wokingham
--------------------------------------------------------
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
I can’t say that I was too big on politics before I started being a Deputy MYP, but I’m getting more interested by the day. What gets to me though, and what I would like to change, is the way that teenagers and young people get portrayed in the media. I hate that we’re all shown to be irresponsible vandals, yet whenever young people do something good, more often than not, it’s completely overlooked.
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
Well, negative media representation. Also I think that we don’t get enough emotional support and that anti-bullying and peer-mentoring groups ought to be introduced into every secondary school. Transport is another huge problem for young people in Wokingham.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I want to be able to get the constituents of Wokingham’s voices heard, and I hope to get anti-bullying and peer-mentoring systems established. I want to create clubs and projects for young people to do, to help restore pride and self-respect in being a young person in Wokingham.
What is your future career ambition?
I want to be a child psychologist or a teacher. =]
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
I don’t think there is anyone, really. Other than Matt Bellamy from Muse, ‘cause he’s just a genius! =] More seriously, though, I don’t think that there are enough politicians out there that could be suitable role models; there is way too much corruption and it’s my view there’s a “glass ceiling” for women and people from ethnic minorities that could be role models. So I don’t really have an answer to that… Sorry…
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
Hmmm… Let’s try to think of something appropriate =]
Can you please allow young people to go about their lives without having prejudice constantly poured upon us all? Also, please make organisations practice what they preach about anti-discriminatory rules and policies.
