Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
For me, the key issue I am most passionate about is improving the image of young people in the media. I feel that if we can mobilise more young people to make a difference then our voice will be louder and people will realise that we can make a difference!
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
Definitely transport. Living in a rural area is difficult at the best of times. So many people either don’t have a bus service that they can catch or find the prices so steep that there’s no way they could afford it regularly. Hopefully, with enough support, this will change.
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I hope that a current scheme ‘Get on Board Devon’ turns out to be successful. Also our Devon team has created 4 brilliant schemes ‘Political education,’ ‘Disability,’ ‘Young Peoples Facilities,’ and ‘Young People in the Media,’ Hopefully these schemes will gather speed and we will go from there.
What is your future career ambition?
I hope to work in some international decision making body or Government. A true ambition would be to become the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. I’m sure UKYP will be invaluable experience for both of these.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
Nelson Mandela is a true inspiration. He acted on an issue that was both wicked and cruel. He fought massive odds to beat Apartheid and that alone is amazing. What sums up the man is his ability to lead but not through war or rash judgements but through reconciliation.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
Young people will have to deal with the mess you make. We face a tougher time as adults then you have had. Global Warming, problems with the Middle East, a broken society, oh and the debt WE will pay off. With all this considered maybe it’s only fair to listen to young people.
