Name: Elouise Mitchell
Position: MYP
Constituency: Dorset
Which political issues are you
most passionate about?
The political issue I am most passionate about is public transport, in my local area, the prices have gone up. By using public transport we can help stop global warming, so why is it so expensive?
What do you feel is the biggest
issue for young people in your constituency?
The lack of jobs for young people – more small businesses need to start letting young people work so they can get life experience, and then go on to greater things!
What do you hope to achieve during
your term of office?
I really want to have a ‘BigGig’ for all young people in Dorset, to try and raise awareness of bullying, and then hopefully stop it! I also want to work closely on getting more political education into schools so by the time young people come to vote, they will understand it. As Ben Tubbs and I are going to the European Parliament in Brussels, we aim to make a DVD telling people about how the EU effects them.
What is your future career ambition?
In the future I would like to either be a translator in a foreign country, or a lawyer but live somewhere like Australia.
Which public figure do you most
admire and why?
I most admire the Queen. She has a large family, and at 84 she is still able to walk freely, travel the world and be an iconic figure for our country.
If there was one message you could
send to the government, what would it be?
Please listen to young people a lot more than you do. Value our opinions try to change things for young people, on what we say. Get involved with young people a lot more too! Come to schools, colleges or UKYP meetings and talk to us, we’re only human, so treat us like one!
Additional comments:
I’m really looking forward to my second year in UKYP. It should be fun, and I hope to make a change for young people. Thanks xx
