Name: Hamida Ahmed

Position: MYP

Constituency:
Stoke-on-Trent

Which political issues are you most passionate about?

I am most passionate about various issues but the main ones are providing lots of opportunities and experiences for young people as many are unaware of the facilities and activities around them. However some areas have no services at all, therefore these young people are lacking enthusiasm and are exposed badly.

What do you feel is the biggest issue for young people in your constituency?

A main issue around my constituency is transport and youth crime issues for young people. Young people are put off public transport because it is expensive, unpredictable and some areas have poor provision. Another issue I think has been overlooked is racism, stereotypes and even bullying. These forms of discrimination have encouraged young people to act negatively towards each other in all forms of hate and disgust which has to stop.

What do you hope to achieve during your term of office?

Being a Member of Youth Parliament has made a difference for me and my community. Personally, I didn’t know about youth services until last year therefore I feel that it’s important to make UKYP better known around all areas, giving young people a better reputation and a chance to get their views heard. By doing this it will help young people to be portrayed more positively in the media, making it easier to be aware of all the opportunities around them and play a better role in their communities.

What is your future career ambition?

To be honest, I am pretty clueless about my future career. Right now, I am just taking opportunities which I think would help me in the future and going with the flow. However, I am hoping to study in college and university and yes, I have no idea what am doing there either but I’m hoping that being a Member of Youth Parliament would make me consider all the possibilities out there.

Which public figure do you most admire and why?

I wouldn’t say there is a specific public figure that I’m inspired by at this moment but I do admire those who have worked hard in life and those who are willing to make a difference by being strong minded and confident. My main inspirations personally would be my family and young people who are in my Sports Ambassadors course and whom I teach as they show me different paths and views but also are willing and enthusiastic about themselves and their community.

If there was one message you could send to the government, what would it be?

We want our views noticed and not ignored because there is a future and young people are going to be a part of it, no doubt! We are willing to help and make a difference and I’m positive that we would do brilliant. Just use your eyes and ears.
