Name: Bilal Mir

Position: Deputy MYP

Constituency:
Bradford

Which political issues are you most passionate about?

I feel that crime really needs to be cut, not only home robberies but also knife crime, and I feel the way we can succeed is teamwork, passing leaflets on how you can stay safe, also putting the sentence up for when you commit a crime!

What do you feel is the biggest issue for young people in your constituency?

I feel that in my constituency of Bradford, theft and poor attitude in public is a very ignored issue, the street name being “missions”. Missions are usually a few young people hanging around, never less than two, using foul language to the local OAPs, and walking into shops, putting items under their tops and walking out.

What do you hope to achieve during your term of office?

I hope I can at least make shopkeepers aware of what’s going on, so they can keep a close eye out and maybe get the word out about what’s going on.

What is your future career ambition?

I have always been inspired by politics. The inspiration came from Gordon Brown, our ex-prime minister. I found his work rather excellent in society and always will remember him. But as a job, after finishing my degree, I would like to do accountancy, and when I’m settled, I do plan on joining a political party.

Which public figure do you most admire and why?

Gerry Sutcliffe. Personally I feel Gerry is a very nice person. He lives here in Bradford but works elsewhere, he puts effort into his job and gives us all support.

If there was one message you could send to the government, what would it be?

Raise awareness on several topics in our country or it could be too late.
