About this campaign

As a young person in the UK, transport is a prevalent issue which must be addressed. There is no consitency with transport costs from one town to the next, with some areas making it far too expensive for a young person to get around at all.

We as members of the UKYP will try and get a national concession card for all young people under the age of 18 in full time education. This would mean that they could get reduced fares on buses making public transport more accessible to young people and giving them more opportunities to access leisure facilities.

We aim to achieve this through a number of measures:

-Get all MYP’s to send a letter to their MP outlining what we would like to happen, with specific reference to their constituency area.

-We will write to Bus Users UK and use our common aims to help each other.

- The select committee will try to establish links with Transport for London and OAP groups to produce a higher impact.

- All MYP’s will be asked to liaise with their local authorities to be included in their regional transport committees and help influence decisions on transport.

- Encourage other young people to take an active part in their regional transport committee.

- We will start a Fairs Fare campaign of posters in bus stations and local authorities to let people know about our aims.

- Work with local media to raise awareness.

- Link areas which have been successful to share good practice
