Half-term recycling challenge

6th October 2008

Norfolk councils have set reisdents the goal of avoiding waste for one week.

The "Waste-Free Week" challenge, organised by Norfolk Waste Partnership, will be held during half term (October 2th- November 2nd) to encourage a culture of recycling in the young people of Norfolk.

The initiative aims to get people thinking about the waste they throw away and find new ways to avoid waste including recycling and composting more.

Barry Coleman, leader of Yarmouth Borough Council and chairman of the Norfolk Waste Partnership, said “We hope that taking the challenge will really open people's eyes to the sorts of things they buy and throw away everyday. It should also help us discover new ways to save money by simply being less wasteful.”

A guidance pack full of useful advice and top tips is available to help those taking part in the challenge, including how to prepare for the week and maintain a slimmer bin once the week is over.
