Recycling boosts school funds

13th November 2008

A recycling scheme at an Ilkeston school resulted in a £500 boost for school funds.

St Thomas Catholic Primary School took part in the Trash for Cash fundraising and recycling initiative which saw pupils and parents collect approximately 1,200 used aluminium cans on the designated 'trash Thursday' before the end of each term.

The cans were weighed in and recycled at Ilkeston based, Wards Recycling with the money gained from each weigh-in going towards developing the schools' infant and junior playgrounds with some much needed adventure play equipment.

Head teacher Michael Geraghty said: "As a voluntary aided school we rely very much on the generosity of local businesses and PTA fundraising for any projects such as this."

St Thomas' PTA would like to express their gratitude to Donald Ward of Wards Recycling for their generosity.
