Data released from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency shows that Scotland has reached a 32% municipal waste recycling rate. These figures are a 1.9% rise from last year and a step toward the Scottish Government's 'Zero Waste' plans.
However, the figures also show that Scotland's recycling and composting performance is still trailing behind England's and is currently three months behind Wales, with the Welsh Assembly Government announcing a 32.2% recycling and composting rate for the financial year 2007/08. (see letsrecycle.com).
This is despite Scotland earlier this year setting itself the most ambitious recycling targets amongst the home nations - to recycle or compost 40% of its municipal waste by 2010, 50% by 2013 and 70% by 2025. |
