Defra reshuffle

8th October 2008

As part of the recent Governments reshuffle, Jane Kennedy comes into the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) with duties including responsibility for waste and recycling. Jane Kennedy has arrived at Defra from the Treasury where she has been Financial Secretary since June 2007.

Joan Ruddock, who previously worked on waste has moved on to the new Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to work on energy matters.

Responsibilities for waste will inevitably fall across the three Departments of Defra, DECC and DBERR - Department for Business, Enterpise and Regulatory Reform, though it is expected that the bulk of waste and recycling projects and their coordination will fall to Defra.

Hilary Benn said, "I am delighted to welcome the new team to Defra and I look forward to working with them on all the challenges that lie ahead, from food production and supporting a thriving farming sector, to tackling waste and improving our natural environment."
