The UK Youth Parliament believes Political Education should be a compulsory part of the primary and secondary curriculum.
Political Education aims to increase voter turnout by teaching young people how important it is to vote, take part in society and the decision making process at a local and national level.
We are campaigning for compulsory political education taught in both primary and secondary education, ages 5 to 14, with a then optional GCSE/standard grade available to all students.
'Politics is a dirty word', say young people
Young people are becoming increasingly alienated by politics, according to research conducted by the UK Youth Parliament. The organisation ran a series of focus groups with young people across the country, asking them how they felt about politics and recording their responses.
