Higher education is becoming more elitist

Data published by the Higher Education Statistics Agency yesterday show that higher education is becoming more elitist as drop-out rates rise.

Statistics highlight that the introduction of the £3,000 a year "top-up" fee imposed in September 2006 have had a negative impact on students, with some 73,700 undergraduates having dropped-out altogether, transferred to other universities or gained lesser qualifications.

These figures comes just months after the Government announced a record £225m would be spent next year attempting to keep full and part-time students on.
