A CAMPAIGN has been launched in York in a bid to block any move to lift the cap on university tuition fees.
The appeal, called Keep The Cap, has been started by James Alexander ahead of a review into whether the cap – which stops universities charging more than £3,300 for tuition fees – should be removed.
Alexander, said that, as part of the campaign – which also involves students at the University of York – he will be asking as many people in the constituency as possible to sign his petition to keep the cap.
He said part of the reason he was organising the appeal was to avoid any prospective York university students from being put off studying in the city in the event of the cap being lifted. Students are “big drivers” of the local economy, he said.
Alexander said he wanted to present the petition to a number of organisations, including the University of York and City of York Council.
