UK Youth Parliament believes that all young people across the UK should have access to university education, regardless of their wealth or socio-economic class. Higher Education should be a right of every citizen in the UK, the Government should realise this right by removing financial barriers which are currently stopping young people from meeting their aspirations. |
In 2006 the campaign began with a Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) creating a petition within their region. What was a local issue for one young person quickly gathered so much support that in May 2008 it was selected as one of UK Youth Parliament’s UK-wide campaigns.

And the Sutton Trust announced in a report earlier in 2008 that:
“Many students from poor backgrounds are being put off university because they are afraid of getting into debt”

For this reason UKYP is committed to lobbying the Government to drop tuition fees and create access to education for everyone, not just the privileged or those eligible to economic support. |
